Born in 1949 in southern Haiti, Frank Louissaint, began his art education with a correspondence course from A.B.C. in Paris. He graduated to painting and drawing classes at Le Centre d'Art in Port-au-Prince, first as a student, then ten years later as a teacher. Despite is humble beginnings and early naïve style, he has matured into a photorealistic painter with a burgeoning international reputation hinted at in the 1982 excerpt from Art News, quoted above.

Né à Aquin en 1949, il fait une partie de ses études à Port-au-Prince (Haïti) et commence à peindre seul. En 1950, il rejoint le Centre d'Art et dévelope un art hyperréaliste qu'il ensei-au centre. Il est connu pour ses scènes de rues et ses toiles sur la paysannerie. on peut le qualifier de "peintre-charnière" ayant évolué entre le genre dit naïf et la peinture dite moderne.
