B  I  O  G  R  A  P  H  Y

Born on June 11, 1936. Gesner Armand started is career at the age of fourteen at the Haitian Art Center where he studies drawing under the supervision of Maurice Borno and watercolor with Pierre Monosiet.

In 1956, he stops painting in watercolors and learns oil painting. "Petit Garçon", his best conceived and balanced paintings realized at that time, constitutes all his work at that time.

In 1957, he is in Mexico where he takes classes of ceramic and sculpture at "Talleres de Artesianas". He makes the most of this opportunity to discover the great masters of Mexican painting.

He returns to Haïti in 1961 and starts off again to Paris with a scholarship from the French Government. He takes this opportunity to exhibit his painting with those of Haiti artists such as Jacques Gabriel, Hervé Télémaque and other Latin American painters.

When he returns to Haïti in 1992, he settles down in Croix-des-bouquets, where he presently lives.

In 1984, he becomes the director of the Museum of Haiti Art of College St. Pierre.

In 1986, he works during two months at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts beside other artists, writers and composers.

In 1992, he publishes a compilation of poems entitled "L'autre bord" edited by Les Editions Mémoires.

Since 1957, he has been participating in individual and group shows in Haïti, the United States and Mexico. He exhibits his paintings also in France, Spain, Martinique,Venezuela, Israël, the Dominican Republic and Equator.
